Well,

JEM 422 is over. It is surely a sad day for everyone involved. I still have yet to eat all the candy that Mrs. Koella so graciously gave me, but its probably good that I'm pacing myself. The Goodbars are long gone though.

Goodbye Mrs. Koella, I really enjoyed your class and I believe that I learned a lot, although I will probably need to start using all of these programs more so I don't forget everything I learned. Thanks a bunch and I hope everyone has a good break.

Without Wax,
Eric

Hey guys!
This is just a random post not related to JEM 422 whatsoever, but I just wanted to post a sweet video I found of myself. Seriously, I didn't upload it. Here it is.

This is me and a friend from camp singing our hearts out this past summer. Man i miss that hair. And by the way this was filmed at the top of a four story tree house. Pretty crazy, huh?

The Great Outdoors

Dear potential adventurers,

The outdoors is a gigantic and amazing place. It provides the opportunity for an almost countless amount of activities while learning more about nature. The best way to learn is experience, and that requires actually being out there.

There is one little thing about nature that concerns the average person: Safety.

My story for my JEM 422 is about how individuals and groups can keep themselves safe while still enjoying all the wonders of the natural world. For the story I am using the University of Tennessee's Outdoor Program as a basis for my research. I plan on doing interview of some of its staff and finding out what they do to keep the staff and students safe on trips. Also included will be plenty of pictures taken by me, your writer. It should be one heck of a story.

Making Movies

Earlier today I was sitting in my Media Theory class listening to the discussion going on. First of all, I hate having discussions in big lecture classrooms. I feel like i'm shouting at a lady vols basketball game for the refs to obtain some kind of vision. Anyway, that's off topic.
One of my classmates actually brought up an interesting topic. They were talking about how a lot of people base their behavior on what they see in the movies. It was like a light bulb went off in my head.

I think I do that.

Lets be honest, I want to be Indiana Jones. Who wouldn't want to run from a giant rock ball that fell from the ceiling while holding a priceless artifact from the past (if you didn't die a painful death)? That's why we go to the movies. James Bond, The Sundance Kid, and Jack Sparrow are all examples of characters we want to be. Although it is practically impossible for us to base our whole lives off of them, we can all remember those moments of excitement and exhilaration, although fleeting, that made us feel alive.

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't push those feelings away. It can't always be like the movies. But hey, we sure can try.
